Chelmsford Racecourse: preview and tips for Thursday’s six-race card

THE all-weather action at Chelmsford Racecourse continues this week with a six-race card at the track on Thursday afternoon in the sunshine.
Racing gets underway at 2.15 with a mile and a quarter amateur jockeys handicap before the card comes to a close at 5.05 as nine runners head to post for a mile handicap.

The racing experts at Betano, who offer the latest horse racing betting, have run the rule over the Chelmsford card and here is how they think it could pan out.
Course and distance winner Palazzo Persico is the selection in the opening race (2.15), having taken a step back the right way when finishing fourth at Beverley 26 days ago and defying a slow break from the stalls. Mr Nugget is the chief threat in this one having been another one to catch the eye at Lingfield just over a fortnight ago.
A maiden fillies’ stakes is up next at Chelmsford, which was recently ranked as one of the ten cheapest racecourses for entry tickets in the UK according to the Racing Post, at 2.50 and Coming Attraction for trainer Roger Varian is is the one to beat, with plenty to like on paper after a second on debut at Goodwood in a class four contest on May 24. Godolphin are well represented too with Crimson Rose on debut, who is the main danger on paper.
Two-time winner this season Almaty Star could be the way to go in race three of the afternoon (3.23), a good fourth last time out at Goodwood and is stepping down in class in the seven runner handicap over five furlongs for trainer Robert Cowell. Stablemate Ziggy’s Missile could pose the biggest threat here, out of his depth when 16th in a class two at Epsom Downs on his last spin on June 7 but this is a much calmer test of his credentials.
Empress Of All has gone close on both of his starts so far for trainer Roger Varian and is taken to get his head over the line first in race four at Chelmsford (4.00) as a field of five head to the start for the mile and a quarter maiden fillies’ stakes in class five, which looks an excellent opportunity for her to open her account.
Ten runners will take on the one mile and two furlong handicap in class four to mark the penultimate race of the evening (4.35) and Varian could pick up another winner on the card with Indalo, second last time out at Hamilton and is very lightly-raced compared to the rest of the field.
Finally, the meeting comes to an end with a mile handicap in class four and a field of nine will head to the start to take it on (5.05). The Saaed bin Surror-trained Dubai Beach looks the way to go in the finale, a winner last-time out at Kempton on the all-weather that represents the best form on show here.
