HARLOW Council today announced the appointment of a specialist architect to lead the design of the rebuilt bandstand in Harlow Town Park – a landmark project that forms a central part of the council’s commitment to Build Harlow’s Future and restore the cultural heart of the town.

The appointment marks the second major step in the council’s eight-step plan to rebuild the bandstand by next summer. The architect will work with the council, local heritage bodies and the community to develop designs that honour the bandstand’s history and iconic appearance while delivering a modern, accessible and resilient structure capable of hosting major concerts, community events and larger-scale performances.
Commenting on the announcement, the Leader of Harlow Council, Cllr Dan Swords said: “The morning after the fire, I promised that we would rebuild the iconic bandstand ready for major events next summer – and we are delivering on that promise. The appointment of an expert architect marks the next step in our eight-step plan to restoring this much-loved landmark. We will create a new bandstand that honours Harlow’s heritage while providing a modern space for future generations to enjoy.
“This is about turning words into action. We are moving from recovery to renewal – rebuilding not just a bandstand, but a place that once again brings our community together to enjoy huge concerts and shows.
“I hope many residents will also attend the ‘See you Soon’ event this Sunday to celebrate the bandstand’s past as we ready for its future.”
To show that the spirit of music and community will never be lost in Harlow, a special “See You Soon” music event will take place on Sunday 19 October 2025 from 1pm-7pm outside the bandstand. The event will feature local bands and musicians, celebrating the town’s musical talent and bringing people together as we look ahead to the bandstand’s return. The event will be free to attend.

Anyone know which architect has been appointed? Can't find anything out at all!
A specialist architect - I think that's enough detail!
When will we be privvy to the design plans? Or is it being built to the same design as before but with pimps for access, lighting & electrics & youre keeping that as a surprise?
Nancy - no it isn't. If they have appointed an architectural firm then it would be good to know which one it is. I want to know if they're versed in this kind of project. I've been in the business long enough to know that selecting the correct architect is key to this sort of thing. I don't get why it appears to be so cloak and dagger - if it's a public sector appointment then it should be freely stated
Does it really matter who is building it , as long as it's built correctly and without anything combustible
Someone somewhere must know the vile piece of scum who did this, he/they must be reading these comments, WHY??
Stuart G, I think Nancy was being sarcastic.
Stuart G, you dont need to know. Your opinion doesnt matter
I'd like to know the name of the architect as well. How can we look up and see what sort of structures they design if it's all being kept secret, or is it because it's a friend of Dan Sword?
