A VILLAGE near Stansted Airport could have red lines added to one of its streets to stop people parking there and then going on holiday. The local highways panel has been told there has been an increase in the volume of cars parking along Parsonage Road in Takeley reports the Local Democracy Reporter.

The county council has said it is working to introduce a scheme that “best meets the needs of all road users”. Red lines would mean no stopping or parking.

Essex county councillor Susan Barker, who represents the area said at a Full Council on January 14: “In Takeley we have airport parking issues. Parsonage Road is now slalom parking all the way. The parish council for the last two years has been trying to get red lines down that road.

“That was sort of put on hold because we are trying to find a parish wide solution. But in June this year at the local highways panel an Essex County Council- designed scheme was put to the local highways panel fully funded by the airport for implementation on September 30.

“This has not happened and the parish council wants to understand why this has not happened. We have the scheme, it’s been agreed, it’s been funded. It is needed.”

Councillor Tom Cunningham, cabinet member for highways, said: “There have been multiple waiting and loading restrictions scheme posed along this length of road including the lhp scheme and developer led proposals.

“To ensure the restrictions are most effective and provide value to our taxpayers, officers across multiple teams are working together to design a suitable proposal which best meets the needs of all road uses.

“I appreciate this is a very live issue and therefore I have instructed officers to find a solution to install restrictions along this road at the earliest available opportunity.”
