Housing boss gives progress update on plans for thousands of homes on Harlow’s borders

READERS WILL continually hear about the planned housing developments on Harlow’s borders.
As we close on 2025, many may wonder, where exactly we are with them all?

On Monday, Harlow and Gilston Garden Town (HGGT) boss, Paula Hirst, was able to give a very succinct overview on:
Updates for Latton Priory, Water Lane, East of Harlow and Gilston were given.
Full details below.
You look worried dan swords.. You should be.. I hear the town centre has all ready flooded.. Imagine what will happen with our town . The water will have no where to go.. Overloading a small town is a very very bad idea.
No Hospital No houses...
30 years ago Rye Meads sewage works said they cannot support the building of new houses on the 414 by Harlow train station hence the reason it has sat empty Since then Newhall, gilded way and so many more houses and flat have been built still with no infrastructure to get rid of waste water and sewage. You lot are so quick to point the finger at water companies for dumping millions of tonnes of crap in our rivers and seas when it is you that are causing these issues. It's all about you getting as much money not the concern of this beautiful country. I would hope you all hang your heads in shame, but unfortunately you do not give a shit; but you are great to tell us we are not doing enough for the environment when the majority problems are caused by this good for nothing government ( and not just Labour) Grow a brain even one between all of you would help and stop screwing this country up
Well I have never heard anyone umm and err so much in just four minutes and this is a reflection of the difficulties being experienced by the developers and politicians supporting the building of thousands of homes on the Green Belt land around Harlow. Lets not forget that the Chairman of the HGGT board is none other that the Leader of Harlow Council, Cllr Dan Swords, who seems to care more about those who will live in the new "villages" on Harlow's outskirts than those of us already living here. The fact is, Harlow Council, Essex County Council and North Weald Basset Parish Council do not support the building of Latton Priory as things stand because the developers do not want to contribure to the cost of building a new sustainable transport corridor heading North or amongst other things, infrastructure improvments. It is clear that the developers have not even bought the land on which much of the new developments will be built on and the development at Water Lane is already a year behind schedule. On that site, numerous commercial greenhouses will need to be bought up and demolished, the cost will no doubt have to be met by those buying very expensive homes on that site.
Until they build a proper access road, I can't see Latton Priory happening any time soon. Given we have one of the worst performing hospitals in the country, I wonder how Harlow council thinks building in and around Harlow 13,000 homes, will help the hospital and the people of Harlow?
Kim, First let me say i am against further building around the town but how do you come to the conclusion that Harlow will be a new Waterworld?
Let's nominate Nick Taylor for 'Bore of the Year' award for his consistent pessimism in a hopeless cause, even surpassing that third rate excuse for an MP Chris Vince NE (NE being Non-Entity)
Val, you must be happy to see thousands of homes built on the Green Belt around Harlow, building on open green spaces in the town, happy to see £7 million spent on re-paving Broadwalk, a Town Centre full of high rise flat blocks, taking thousands of housing applicants of the councils waiting list and the list goes on. As the leader of a local political party, I will have to agree to disagree with you. It's because Labour and the Conservatives have failed to listen to the public that Independent parties and Reform are sweeping away councillors from those two parties.
How can people in their right mind even consider building all these houses without improving the infrastructure beforehand. New hospital would be a start. Doctor and dental surgeries? Then the roads? Oh my, the roads!! Tried getting into Queensgate recently. Midweek it's a shambles. Weekend? Forget it. Chuck in an additional thousand cars from the new homes and you have gridlock. Bus lanes? Great for busses and cabs rushing past standing traffic but only worth it in towns and cities with park and ride. All these cars are already in the town fcol. Where's all the relevant impact statements on how Harlow will cope with all these new homes? Honestly, it just all seems horrific and short-sighted. I'd go further and say it's moronic. Modern Britain is brutal, corrupt and incompetent.
Roads are grid locked now. So how eill all these hkmes resolve this chaos.
