THE HARLOW Angling Centre has announced the closure of its shop in Bush Fair.
The statement on their Facebook page as follows:
“Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close the shop in the new year. We will be running as usual up to Christmas Eve but the shop will be closed from Christmas Day onwards.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision to make but unfortunatley it is no longer viable to keep the business going due to the current financial climate.
We will be open until Christmas Eve so if you have any outstanding vouchers or if you need anything until then please do pop in. We will also be offering 20% off everything in store until that date.
We just want to say a massive thank you to all our brilliant customers who have supported us for so many years.
“We are very sorry it has come to this but we are so grateful for your support and all the memories we have made. Thank you very much from all the team here at the Harlow Angling Centre”.
If you click on to their Facebook page, you will see how many people will miss the shop.
Well done Rachel Reaves and congratulations to our esteemed MP though I cannot quite remember his name as we never see or hear of him. This is sadly going to be occurring more and more as the damage the Cons and now Labour have done to business. Politicians are not selected for intelligence or capability.
Well done labour another nail in the coffin for small businesses. The sooner this labour government is gone the better for all.
It's a great shame and a sad loss when a specialist shop such as this has to cease trading. We mustn't lose our independent traders.
Is the financial climate down to labour, or is it people buying stuff on line? Stansted airport reports record numbers so not all bad it seems. The NI changes that happened in April 25 actually reduced net NI costs for small business. It could, of course, be that people don't fish as much. Whatever the reason, it is still a shame
Brenda, loads of businesses have gone bust the last 20 odd years, this is not a Labour thing and it's silly to blame a government you do not like without being factual. We are the ones to blame, people buy online, the high street has been dying for years because of it. Very sad to see but people value the ease of online shopping and often cheaper prices.
Peter try running a business, NI is up, minimum wage is up, energy costs are through the roof and rates are going up, plus the insanity of the employment bill. I would suspect the decided to quit while ahead. The reason the high street cannot compete with on line is because the high street as way more over heads from the state. The solution is not increase overheads on online, but to reduce them on the high street. We need to pare back government, taxes and regulation. Mr George Labour have destroyed the UK economy in 18 short months, The US gets 4% growth the UK and EU leaders have no idea how to do that and crow about 0.1% which is then downgraded. Oh for some leaders not politicians.
Really sad to see this angling shop going it's been a great staple of Bush Fair for a lot of years. I would like to thank them for all their help and advice over the years - massive loss
Adam, I have had my own businesses in the past and been an employer in Harlow. Despite retirement I have managed the financials in my son's business (a training provider) which is now 16 years old. Being in business is never easy. I agree with much of what you say but I don't think Labour has destroyed the economy, I think it was already "destroyed". Covid, then Brexit didn't help, both a failure of govt in my opinion. It is hard to form an opinion on why the shop has closed without having more info. I don't understand why its customers don't take it over. Good Luck mate!
I only went in there a handful of times. The business probably failed cos they were patronising, miserable gits so I ended up spending my many hundreds of pounds at Angling Direct instead. You reap what you sow.
I'll always remember this as one of the least welcoming shops in Harlow! The staff certainly had a way of dealing with customers. I do have a lot of memories here's though, it always surprises me how much stock they carried. It was a treasure grotto for young anglers back in the 90s/2000s. I seem to remember they allowed smoking in there too which probably gave it more of an magical atmosphere!
Gutted for Kevin nimmo.........not!
Keith Burton the manager there's a complete knob, went to school with him, it's no wonder he's single and no friends.
Maybe John Wilson would help save the shop if he was contacted or David Seaman
Harlow Anglings demise was their own doing. Didn't move with the times. Carp fishing took over during the 1980's and yet Harlow Angling continued to fill its shop with coarse fishing gear. Johnson Ross angling shop thrives as a business based in Hoddesdon. It caters for the specialist angler. Tge majority market.
