Chris Vince / Wed 7th Jan 2026 at 07:58am

HARLOW MP Chris Vince has written to Essex County Council to express his concerns over Gilden Way.

Gilden Way stretches from Junction 7a of the M11 to Churchgate Street.

Last month, there was a fatal collision on the stretch of road.

Ahh yes a letter will change everything, this is why we are in the mess we are people in government write letters to each other and think that is doing something. Action is what is needed for most issues not letters, or committees or advisory groups. The road is obviously not safe get someone down there work out what it is and get it corrected. It is simple as Winston Churchill used to say Action this day.

The danger issue is simply speeding. I use the road on a regular basis and, just yesterday, I had two cars race past me in the outer lane Harlow bound. I was below the limit of 40mph (about 37-38mph). Those overtaking were doing at least 60mph in my estimate. Put speed cameras along Gilden Way.

More, clearer, larger speed limit signs would be useful.

More, clearer, larger speed limit signs would be useful … but some kind of deterrent or traffic calming is sorely needed.

Speed cameras would help.

There have been other tragic road deaths and many accidents on Gilden Way over many years. One I shall never forget was that of a young father, killed in a collision while cycling home after work. Speeding and unreported accidents have always been an issue on Gilden Way and this has been exacerbated by the construction of the M11's Junction 7a. Motorists leave the M11 at Junction 7a and drive as though they're still on it. Gilden Way needs more speed limit signs and speed cameras.
