Former Spurs star unveils listening bench in memory of Ebony outside Poplar Kitten

LAST week, former Spurs star Mickey Hazard came to Harlow to unveil a listening bench outside the Poplar Kitten pub in Bush Fair.

It is part of his Legends on the Bench project.

Legend-on-the-Bench is a non-profit making charity set up by ex-professional footballer, Micky Hazard, and his sister Michelle following the tragic death of Michelle’s son Jason Lee Mead, with the aim of reducing the number of such tragedies recorded each year due to mental health issues or suicides.

Tragedy touched the Poplar Kitten community following the untimely death of Ebony Speller, aged 25 in 2022.

Family and friends were there for the unveiling.

As Mickey explains on the film, the benches are there for sitting and having a chat but there is also a access to help such as QR codes embedded in the bench.

Afterwards, we spoke to Mickey about the project and plans for the future.

We apologise for the poor sound and vision. Rainwater got into our camera.
