LOCAL resident, Cally King, has written her first book “Mrs Mentary’s Mystery Tours Essex” and it features our very own Harlow The book contains twelve mystery tours around Essex where you vist the location, solve fifteen clues based on local landmarks and find the culprit! Who stole the expensive handbag on the ghost tour around Old.Harlow? It’s up to you to find out!.

Cally wrote the book because she thinks there are so many beautiful places in Essex that don’t get the recognition they deserve, including Manningtree. “Dedham, Finchingfield, Colchester, Clacton and Southend get all the attention but there are so many other hidden gems in our county”.
The mystery element of the book was inspired by Cally’s experience of writing scavenger hunts and word games for her children during lock down. Cally thinks that in the current cost of living crisis the book also provides a low-cost entertainment for all of the family by saving on expensive travel.and entrance ticket prices.
The other locations for the mystery tours are Wivenhoe, Brightlingsea, Frinton on Sea, West Mersea, Coggeshall, Tollesbury, Thaxted, Castle Hedingham, Great Bardfield, Manningtree and Leigh on Sea. The book also contains information on great places to eat, drink, shop and play in each location as well as a general.directory of great Essex businesses and includes many based in and around Harlow.
The book is available on Amazon and Cally is talking to a number of local book shops and gift shops about selling it. She said, “It’s been a steep learning curve for me since this is my first foray into writing but I am really enjoying the experience and if even a few people have a greater appreciation for this beautiful county after buying my book I’ll be happy.”
