Outrage as mindless vandals target allotment that is haven for those with special needs

OVER the weekend, what appears to have been an attempted break in took place at the Plant Pots and Wellies allotment site in The Hides.
A section of the perimeter fence was destroyed after being rammed by a vehicle. Thankfully it appears no further damage was done to the site.
Rowen Saunders, Plant Pots and Wellies Project Manager said “Our dedicated team of volunteers work so hard to provide a wide range of activities for both children and adults with additional needs and their families and carers.

To have this sort of damage happen on our site is shocking, but I am just so grateful to all the volunteers who rallied round to temporarily fix and make the site safe, in the pouring rain and high winds.
“We are so appreciative of all the support we receive both locally and further afield and I would like to send out my thanks to everyone for their ongoing support”
Labour Leader and Netteswell Councillor James Griggs commented: “I was contacted by Rowen about this appalling incident on Saturday morning. Plant Pots and Wellies is one of the many jewels in the Netteswell crown and I was very concerned to hear that the site had been compromised in this way. Volunteers have done a fabulous job in making a temporary repair to the fence in spite of the dreadful weather conditions.
I have made an urgent request to the council and HTS seeking a permanent repair and extension of the metal fencing to provide the security this vital community project deserves. I will also be asking Harlow Police and the Council’s Community Safety Team to investigate as we have potentially identifying details of the vehicle involved.
I don't agree with what has been done by these vandals and they deserve to be punished severely. BUT have you asked why they do it. I think it is because they are bored. There is nothing in this town for them. Things being closed down. Things being taken away from them. Things need to change and quickly.
I know why they do it Jenny, they're moronic.
Just looking at the picture, it looks like this fence panel has more likely than not, been blown down by the gale force wind, rather than being hit by a vehicle. I accept there may be other evidence than we can’t see, but when vehicles hit wooden fences they tend to leave a smashed section and traces of paint, this appears to have neither and the fence panel is largely still intact. Yes, there is a vast amount of vandalism around the town, but l believe that this incident is probably not one of those. But l stand to be corrected.
Stuart J that does seem possible. there looks to be a lot of damage to whatever the black bit is at the bottom but if it's plastic it could easily have been damaged with the panel moving like that. the fact that there's no other damage and we've had high winds over the weekend it does seem plausible.
although it does suggest a vehicle was involved so maybe someone witnessed it. either way, I'm glad nothing else was damaged
I totally accept there has been a shocking decimation of youth services over the past decade or more but that is no excuse for vandalism or anti social behaviour. There are additional photos (not publicly shared) which identify a vehicle and show car body parts which must have broken off during the impact. The information has been passed to the police.
Councillor James Griggs, can we look forward to you lobbying Chris Vince to tell Free Gear Keir that your Labour government must spend far more money on youth services?
