THE CONSERVATIVE candidate at the last General Election has issued a statement following the news that thousands of appointments at Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) have been cancelled as they attempt to embed a new electronic patient record system (Alex Health)
Hannah Ellis said: ‘”My heart goes out to all those who have been affected by the cancellations. We all want to see improvements in technology within the NHS, but only if it is managed properly to deliver a better and more accessible service for patients.

The NHS exists to serve the people, not the other way round. In too many cases, this is not happening as it should be. That’s not fair on patients and it’s not fair on the doctors, nurses, healthcare assistants and support staff who took their jobs because they wanted to help people.
For too long, politicians of all colours have failed to get to grips with the systematic and cultural failings within the NHS. Pumping endless amounts of more money into a broken system – as Labour are doing now without requiring the necessary improvements to outcomes for patients – is not the answer.
Princess Alexandra Hospital should clearly set out what controls and oversight they had over the planning and implementation of their new system and explain how this situation was able to happen.
An unconscionable numbers of patients have been affected already and this must be putting an enormous amount of pressure on hospital staff who will be trying to catch up without causing further delays to those patients still on the waiting list.
“The hospital’s priority must be rebooking these cancelled appointments as soon as possible while supporting the staff who will have been dealing with the repercussions of this on the frontline.”
It’s not just the IT system, it’s the culture of the place. Last week, my partner went for a blood test early in the morning - Half an hour later, I got a call - “Come and pick me up, they can’t find my name on the list - They say the surgery hasn’t booked me an appointment” - So we had to drive to the doctor get a paper confirmation that the appointment had been booked and then drive back to the hospital - The name was on the list all the time. It’s like incompetence is not only tolerated at this place, but it has been normalised. It comes from the management. The is a constant merry go round of mediocre managers who go from one underperforming provincial hospital to the next. Hospitals like this should not be self-governing, as they just can’t attract people with the competence to do the job adequately. PAH should be under the governance of a large well-managed hospital with the best talent and everything that goes on should at PAH should be subject to scrutiny from above and its management should be accountable.
Given that Tory governments spent 14 years wrecking the NHS, it's raw hypocrisy that one them complains about anything.
It's a catastrophic mistake . Nothingness been set up correctly they can't even rebook the pateints because there is "no capacity " Dr's are always sick or don't turn up to their clinics , youl go to appointment and there's No clinic !!!!!!! They dot call either if your booked in for a call appointment They don't even tell you, its utterly disgusting and no one cares !!!!!!
Ms Ellis,I would strongly recommend that you should refrain from making derogatory comments about the NHS that your party spent the last 14 years deliberately starving of funding with the sole intention of running it into the ground to make way for private American healthcare providers. As an exserviceman who has been allover the world I can assure you our NHS is an institution to be cherished and proud of.
Hannah, the new system has been in the pipeline for a while, may I suggest, for the sake of clarity, you investigate if the current problems are a result of failures under the conservative govt or have happened totally under labour. We know £58000 was spent on a Las Vegas junket a year or so ago presumably this had been a while in the planning stage.
Are Joel Charles and Hannah Ellis the official spokespersons for Harlow Council?
