Letter to Editor: UKHSA in Harlow. What is your Plan B Chris Vince?

Your Say / Sat 14th Jun 2025 at 10:54am

Dear Editor,

In a recent YourHarlow interview (28 May) with Chris Vince the Editor asked him about the new hospital, his short time in office and “is that quite hard” to achieve much in 10 months?

However, would YourHarlow please ask Mr Vince why it is that Salisbury MP John Glen managed to secure an adjournment debate in parliament on the future of the HPA at Porton Down within 7 weeks of becoming an MP, yet Vince has failed to secure one on the UKHSA in 11 months?

John Glen was first elected to parliament on 6 May 2010 and secured his first  adjournment debate regarding Porton Down on 22 June 2010. It i yous worth pointing out that John Glen secured three further adjournment debates on 11 September 2013, 24 June 2015 and 21 May 2025.

Just as you asked Mr Vince on 28 May, I also ask “what is the Plan B?”

I was in attendance at a hustings held at Passmores school during the general election campaign where Chris Vince and all the other candidates were asked questions. I asked a question in reference to the planned hospital and the Health agency concerning the delays in bringing the Health agency and the new build hospital. At that meeting Mr Vince assured the audience that he was committed to see the new hospital built AND had assurances from Sir Kier this would happen. Mr Vince said he would do all in his power to make sure the Health agency would move here. Everything seems to continue to be ‘on hold’ with no movement forward at all. Mr Vince seems very quiet.about these issues as the site at the Pinnacles remains a derelict site and no land has been purchased near the M11 7a junction

It will be "the best possible outcome" for Harlow residents... Or some drivel to that degree. A good hard pledge and some other government speak to inspire yet leave you completely hollow of substance.

Mr Vince knows full well the UKHSA will not becoming to Harlow as he knows the desperately needed new Harlow hospital will not even be considered to be built during Labours one term (god forbid they have a second term) in office. With that safely in mind he will pop up now and again telling the people of his "hard work and determination" to bring both to Harlow just to placate any dissenting voices and make it appear he's doing something other than doing nothing. When thinking of Mr Vince's political prowess and ability to represent the people of Harlow, I see a can of sweetcorn you pay for hoping one day it will reward you with being part of a glorious meal, only to find it at the back of the cupboard 5 years later and it's achieved absolutely nothing. The pure honesty of Harlows mp representation, if we didn't have a Harlow mp, we'd have at least one less mp to vote against the people of Harlow

I'm not sure what more he can do. He repeatedly brings this up in Parliament - did so again yesterday. There's only so much one man can do, but to suggest he's not trying to secure this for Harlow is pretty disingenuous.

It's hard to say who's to blame Seamus. After all we have been promised a refit for years.I believe that quite a few hospitals were given the government ahead by the Tories. As usual the behaviour was quite specific when they realised that Harlow was going to ditch them. Well I have been trying my best to get a refit for PAH 1. We managed to get a 2 million pounds plaster It is not enough. We have been misled PAH 1 at least has already got plans for a refit. For some unknown reason it has been thrown on the scrap heap . Come on Sir Kier at least tell us why when there is 3.5 Billion available for the imaginary bio lab, that you can't divert those monies to PAH 1 and PAH 2. The Editor is welcome to give my Email address to Sir Kier,as I would rather like a full explanation.

Well, today Starmer announced over £1 billion for a completely new bio labs in Surrey. Last time I checked a map, Harlow is not in surrey

Seamus refers to the the Animal and Plant Health Agency centre in Weybridge which will serve as the UK’s foremost animal biosecurity facility. The government have given the money to improve facilities at the existing site. See article at https://www.gov.uk/government/news/greater-security-delivered-for-the-british-people-with-record-billion-pound-investment-in-new-national-biosecurity-centre

I have a sneaky feeling that Harlow was never on the map Seamus.Looks like a lot of hot air.Pah one desperately needs it's refit.A couple of Billion dollars ,I mean pounds thrown at it. Well I don't know like the idea of an animal testing facility. Do you think they are going to produce animal destruction weapons there. I think as I remember from school they use them to wipe out food supplies as well. I am glad it's not in Harlow..They are welcome to it. By the way have we found out who was responsible for producing the original sars yet I could make an educated guess With so many potential enemies I hope the make a tested vaccine for it first .Mind you Porton would have that.

Labour is finished and I'm sure Starmer, Chris Vince and the rest of the labour party know that and if they don't then they are delusional.
