Police arrest man following gun fire in The Stow as Serious and Organised Crime Unit head investigation

Crime / Wed 18th Jun 2025 at 02:11pm

Update: A man remains on bail until September 15th while enquiries continue.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested after a gun was reportedly fired in Harlow at the weekend.

It was reported the firearm was discharged in The Stow Playing Field between 3.45pm and 4pm on Saturday 14 June.

No injuries were reported and a suspect fled the scene.

Since then, detectives in our Serious and Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) have developed a picture of the incident, and on Monday 16 June arrested a man from Harlow on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

He has since been released on bail, with stringent conditions attached, while our investigation continues.

Sergeant Victoria Jarvis, of SOCU, said: “This weapon was fired in broad daylight in a public place.
“We fully understand the public’s concern about this incident and have moved quickly to make sure we made this arrest.”

Inspector Leanne Archer, of Harlow Neighbourhood Policing Team, added: “While thankfully no injuries were reported, I hope the public can see how seriously we are treating this matter.

“Any report involving weapons, from knives to the extremely rare incidents involving a firearm, will be treated as a priority.

“The investigative team has established this incident likely involved people known to each other and the ongoing wider threat to the people of Harlow is minimal.

“We’ll be supporting this investigation by ensuring we are staying visible in Harlow, engaging with businesses and residents to offer reassurance.

“Please approach my officers if you have any concerns or information which could help us.”
Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or anyone with information which could assist us, should get in touch.

I see safe to go stow is doing wonders for the area! And the ‘clear, hold, build’ programme has really worked a treat too!!! It’s so lovely to know my children can play safely in their area in the middle of the day and that I don’t have to worry that my children could be stabbed or shot just for playing out with their friends. I’m even more happy to hear that this lovely person has been granted bail too!! I’m sure he won’t do it again. So good to hear there will be more police presence too…. I’m sure I saw an officer…. Last year was it, oh yes last year, at the last stabbing at the stow. Nope, sorry last officer seen was more recent, when the male got run over on the cycle tracked and killed. I also remember seeing police when a polish man was killed by a punch by teenagers. The improvement in the stow is outstanding! Keep up the amazing work! Welcome to Harlow!!!!!!

No where is safe in this country now we're importing 40,000 plus people that we know nothing about,I'm surprised there's not more trouble than there is

I think I should remind people what His Majesty's Inspectorate if Constabulary said about Essex Police force in its inspection report: "the force doesn’t consistently monitor suspects who are on bail with conditions, set by the police or courts, to make sure they are abiding by these conditions." 'Please approach my officers if you have any concerns or information'! WHAT OFFICERS! Maybe if they patrolled the area on a regular basis this may not have happened but the only time you see one is when they are driving past. Be the Police that you are supposed to be. Get out of the cars and walk the beat a few days a week and send the message to the scrotes that run the area.

You only see an officer once the persons been killed or the offence has been committed. They know the stow is unsafe and they stick a pop up shop to “help” combat crime. I’d love to see the stats on the improvement it’s made!!! Instead of a pop up shop, shut the dam thing down, save the rent money, stick the police in the police houses that are already owned by Essex police at the stow and get them out patrolling!!! Even when the crimes committed still nothing is done to PREVENT… just wait until the next incident. I hope to god it isn’t an innocent person and god forbid a child that is in the wrong place at the wrong time when the next incident happens. Because we all know it’s a case of when and not if.

"Inspector Leanne Archer, of Harlow Neighbourhood Policing Team, added: “While thankfully no injuries were reported, I hope the public can see how seriously we are treating this matter." "Since then, detectives in our Serious and Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) have developed a picture of the incident, and on Monday 16 June arrested a man from Harlow on suspicion of possessing a firearm.". So you would think if this is a dangerous person who had a firearm and discharged it and you've caught him, the next sentence is quite a contradiction to the police's comments above "He has since been released on bail, with stringent conditions attached, while our investigation continues." Rather puzzling no?

The police services, in common with other public services, were shredded by years of deliberate 'Austerity'. Presumably all those bemoaning lack of service provision, didn't vote for the party that brought so much economic ruin.
