Essex Police issue further details on plans to police protest in Epping

ESSEX Police has issued further details on plans to police protest in Epping.

Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper said: “We know there are more plans for protest in Epping tonight, Thursday 24 July.

“We’ve got a really robust plan in place for this, to protect the people of Epping against anyone who turns up to commit crime and violent disorder.

“There will be a ban on anyone wearing face coverings. We’re able to do this under Section 60aa of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.

“If you wear one, we’ll order you to take it off. If you don’t take it off, you’ll be arrested.

“We’re also using extra powers available to us which mean we can put restrictions on people who plan to assemble or to take part in any kind of procession.

“These powers are under Sections 12 and 14 of the Public Order Act 1986.

“There will be designated sites where people who want to make their voices heard can lawfully do that.

“These sites are directly opposite The Bell Hotel and will have their own designated entry and exit routes.

“There will also be designated sites close to the Civic Centre.

“If you move from the Bell Hotel to the Civic Centre, you will not be able to return.

“To be clear, you will not be able to get in the way of people getting on with their daily lives in Epping. This is a priority.

“There will also be restrictions on how long you’ll be able to stay for lawful protest. All protest activity should cease by 10pm on Thursday 24 July 2025.”

I have to ask why you didn't apply this to your recent police van hire that accomodated socialist workers and stand upto racism protesters going there and returning in your vans to the tube stations. Personally I'm all in favour of no masks but let's be consistent and not the two teir standard that has happened in Epping so far with far left being favoured by the police.

The order wasn't in place when some of the posters were driven away for their own protection. That is why the flag-huggers were still able to keep their face coverings, at that time.

Why do they not let the 2 groups protest on different days like they do in central london. Allowing two opposing groups to protest at the same time in the same place is just asking for trouble.generally this would not happen in central london due to the obvious high risk of violence. While this whole thing has been hijacked by the far left and far right, we should all remember this was originally about worried parents fearing for their children’s safety, which is something I cannot see anybody with a sound mind opposing.
