Bell Hotel: Nine now charged and in front of courts

Crime / Fri 25th Jul 2025 at 03:15pm

A TOTAL of nine people have been charged and will appear in court following our continuing investigation into incidents of disorder in Epping last week.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We would continue to stress that peaceful protest is welcomed in Essex, and a planned protest on Thursday 24 July passed off largely without incident.

We’re grateful to those in Epping who made their voices heard and exercised their legal rights peacefully.

Officers are continuing to investigate previous incidents of hooliganism, violence and disorder linked to a small number of individuals who took advantage of previous protests to commit offences.

For complete clarity, this is an update on the ongoing detective work into previous gatherings. The most recent protest was entirely peaceful.

We’ve been analysing footage and carrying out enquires to identify those responsible.

“In one recent example on Thursday 24 July, officers arrested a man, aged in his 40s, from Epping, on suspicion of violent disorder”.

Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper said:

“I’m really grateful to the people of Epping who wanted to make their voices heard yesterday and did so peacefully.

“I’ll take this opportunity to thank them again.

“As people will have seen, we had a really robust police operation around the protest.
“We wanted to ensure everyone could safely go about their business, minimising disruption, while facilitating peaceful protest.

“We are continuing to investigate those few intent on exploiting peaceful protests to launch assaults on officers, cause criminal damage, or commit disorder.
“They can expect a knock on the door.”

Our latest charges are:

Shaun Thompson, 37, of Western Avenue, Epping, charged with violent disorder and criminal damage. (In relation to Thursday 17 July). Due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Friday 25 July.

It's good to see that at least a very small minority of participants of the Farage Riots are being prosecuted for their actions. I hope that the alleged "two tier" system is not in effect and these "people" are treated exactly as if they were a young person of colour charged with a minor driving offence. Treating these knuckle dragging mouth breathers the same or lighter than the "Just Stop Oil" mob is, I expect, insulting to many people. As Farage is so keen to send criminals overseas, perhaps these knumbskulls can be sent to an El Salvador prison? Or would that be an insult to the El Salvadorions?

Well done Essex Police, you are doing a difficult job in Epping very well.

A spell in Colchester's military correction unit would sort them out. My cousin spent three and half months in there and he never wanted to see the place again. Brendan couldn't wait to get back to Dublin and left on a ferry the same day he was released.

I’m not sure if punishment is the right thing David. As I see it, there are two main groups of young people involved. Firstly, the young grey jogging pant wearing NEETs and secondly tight short wearing steroid driven white van driving "Tradies", Neither group have taken full advantage of the education system, but I think more importantly, neither group pay taxes. The first is on benefits and the other is strictly ‘Cash in Hand’. If you don’t pay into society, you can go out and smash up the police and it has no consequences for you. Get them paying their way, and they might have a bit more respect for our country.
