TWO men have been arrested by sharp-eyed response officers in North Weald on suspicion of drugs offences and of possession of knives and offensive weapons.
Initially, Loughton Local Policing Team officers stopped a vehicle in Pike Way on August 22 because it had a broken brake light.
But a 25-year-old man from Thornwood and a 21-year-old man from Coopersale were arrested after the officers spotted a craft knife in the glovebox.
Subsequent searches led to the recovery of £3,000 in cash, suspected drugs, several mobile phones, two machetes, a knuckle duster and a firearm.
The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs and of possession of an offensive weapon and possession of firearms offences. He has been bailed while our investigation continues.
The 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs and of possession of a knife or bladed article. He has been released under investigation.
Epping Forest District Commander Chief Inspector Terry Fisher says: “Officers initially stopped the car to alert the occupants that one of their brake lights was out.
“Officers will often stop motorists to warn them of safety defects.
“But in some cases, the behaviour of the occupants will raise their suspicions and, if they have reasonable grounds to search them or their vehicle, they will.”
Police officers use stop and search when they suspect people are carrying stolen property, drugs or weapons. It’s a targeted approach which helps to keep our neighbourhoods safer.
