Doctors vote to go ahead with this week’s five-day strike in England

THIS week’s five-day doctor strike in England will go ahead after British Medical Association members voted to continue with a planned walkout despite a new offer from the government reports the BBC.
The strike by resident doctors, the new name for junior doctors, is due to start at 07:00 on Wednesday with Health Secretary Wes Streeting warning it was “irresponsible and dangerous” given the pressure hospitals are under with flu.

Around three years ago I proudly stood with the then junior doctors on their picket line outside the PAH. Three years on I will not do the same this week. Why? Because it is important to recognise that pay has increased. The conditions of employment need addressing but walking away from those negotiations solves nothing and just adds fuel to those that want to get rid of the greatest public service we have and will ever have.
We seem to have gone from junior doctors who protest, to protesters who just happen to be junior doctors
I agree Gary. Last time 100% behind them, this time not so much. It will cause even more delays for us all when it's already abysmal.
I am behind them the job they do for little wage is disgusting. Labour caved in for the train drivers so I am sure these doctors deserve more
Never been behind them, they demanded insane impacts to the countries health, wealth, prosperity and future during the over blown pandemic then immediately went on strike for more money. Frankly we should be cutting NHS wages until the wait lists drop, and productivity improve, performance related pay should be implemented also (based on creating healthy people) get it working fully 24/7 and stop with putting it on a pedestal its been terrible for my 40 plus years.
I support the doctors because it's about doctors jobs as well as pay. Wes Streeting has done a juggling act to present more doctors for nil overall gain in reality. The BMA said: "There are no new jobs in this offer – he (Streeting) has simply cannibalised those jobs which already existed for the sake of ‘new’ jobs on paper. Neither was there anything on what Mr Streeting has said is a journey to restoring our pay – that has clearly hit the buffers." Adam there are times....... We are not dealing with productivity. We are dealing with life or death. Productivity doesn't matter if your dead: Does it? Except for undertakers I suppose! Mind you it might put you out of business if a senior or pivotal member of your staff is seriously ill, couldn't it?
The shortage of doctors and widespread dissatisfaction with training was reported only last month by a survey conducted by the Royal College of Physicians. Consultant physicians responding highlighted: 83% say rota gaps directly impact patient care; 66% report resident doctor rota gaps on acute medical rotas; 59% report consultant vacancies in their departments; Only 17% think postgraduate training recruitment is fair; Only 44% are satisfied with their clinical training; 35% say they do not expect to still be in the NHS in five years." Pay him the Danegeld and you will never get rid of the Dane.
Gary I pay for private healthcare for my staff, as for productivity I meant getting waiting lists down. A lot of the NHS capabilites sits idle at weekends.
Adam, "A lot of the NHS capabilites sits idle at weekends." What evidence do you have for that statement? Further private healthcare only covers a limited number of conditions and I suspect you pay dearly for it. Any life threatening conditions they very rarely touch. To my knowledge they would usually call an NHS ambulance to take them to a NHS hospital to save their life. So in effect you are paying twice in NI contributions and private health. That damages you profit levels doesn't it?
I would like to know how these selfish people would feel if one of their loved ones was affected by their action. They should be ashamed. If they feel that strongly about the conditions of their employment they should find another job. I pray for everyone to not suffer because of you and certainly not any of my loved ones. The NHS staff are all struggling but they are dedicated to their role unlike you. You disgust me.
I'd sack the bloody lot of the greedy so and so,s.
They couldn't careless jean.I hope they can sleep at night.
The armed forces were awarded 6% in 2024 and in 2025 they got 4.5% and have a no strike enforcement. The police were awarded 4.75% in 2024 and 4.2% for 2025 and have a no strike enforcement. Junior doctors got 22% for 2024 and are now seeking 29% but have NO no strike enforcement but have had multiple weeks of strike days since labour took over. What's wrong with this picture?
