PFCC Roger Hirst appointed MBE in New Year Honours

Crime / Tue 30th Dec 2025 at 01:07pm

ROGER Hirst, Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex, has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the New Year Honour’s List.

The Commissioner received this honour for services to Policing and to Community Safety.

Mr Hirst said: “It’s an enormous privilege to receive this MBE in recognition of the work the PFCC has carried out in collaboration with our partners, to increase community safety, reduce crime and save lives in Essex.

“We have always advocated a collaborative approach to emergency services and public safety, focusing on bringing together police, fire, rescue, health, local authority and other partners to improve outcomes and drive efficiencies.

“Behind our work is a simple idea: safe and secure communities are the bedrock on which success, prosperity and wellbeing are built. That remains our focus – driving down crime, reducing anti-social behaviour, and delivering effective and efficient emergency services – and we will keep working with our partners to make a difference where it matters most.”

Roger Hirst was first elected as the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex in May 2016 and has since been elected for a third term in May 2024. He became the first Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner in the country in October 2017.

A long-standing member of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioner’s Board and Finance Lead for Police and Crime Commissioner’s nationally, Roger led the successful campaign to secure additional funding for policing and achieved the target of recruiting an additional 905 Essex Police officers in March 2023, making the force the biggest in its 185-year history.

Prior to his election as Commissioner, Roger was Cabinet Member at Essex County Council with responsibility for Community Safety. He was also Deputy Leader of Brentwood Borough Council and has 33 years of industry experience as a senior investment banker.

Since 2016 reported incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Essex have fallen by more than two thirds and incidents of burglary have more than halved. The latest figures also show that in the 12 months to the end of November 2025, all crime in Essex fell by 4.3%—evidence that sustained investment in prevention and visible policing is working.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has continued to focus on prevention and protecting the most vulnerable. Since 2019, the number of people injured by fire has reduced significantly, and in the 12 months to the end of August 2025, crews and prevention teams carried out over 12,000 home safety visits to help vulnerable Essex residents live safer at home.

for what? the honours system just seems to be a big club for political rewards and the politically connected with a few sports stars and celebs thrown in.

Well done Roger Hirst. He has made a difference. Unlike many in public office Roger makes a point of replying to correspondence.

Adam, the country is on its knees and their focus is on giving each other awards. It is a country in decline. - I see people getting these awards and wonder how long it will be before we see them in the papers for something crooked, shady or unscrupulous that they've done. Hairdressers, actors, politician - All seek adoration and validation via awards and titles - Not the best of us.

Dan I agree I look across the west and all I see is a political class and chosen favourites who are enriching themselves at the expense of the tax payer. The levels of corruptions and lies are stratospheric. I am fed up of it, everything the state and media tell you are pretty much lies.
