ALEX Mayer has today been confirmed as the new Labour Member of the European Parliament for the East of England.
She replaces Richard Howitt who earlier this month stepped down after 22 years to take up a new role as head of a leading global organisation dedicated to linking companies with society, the environment and the wider economy.
Alex Mayer previously worked for the British Heart Foundation and has managed Cambridge Labour MP, Daniel Zeichner’s parliamentary office since he was elected in 2015. Alex has been an active local campaigner over many years.
Alex Mayer MEP commented,
“After the Brexit vote, in many ways this is a strange time to be entering the European Parliament. However there is an important job of work to be done ensuring that whilst we remain members of the EU, and in the Brexit negotiations, we get the best deal we can for the East- particularly when it comes to protecting jobs, the economy and living standards in our region.
“It’s a huge privilege to take on this role. I pay tribute to my friend and colleague Richard Howitt who I am replacing, he has been an incredible servant to the region.”
