TWO former Harlow College students are celebrating after winning the prestigious VTCT Certificate of Excellence for their outstanding Level 3 Beauty coursework during 2012/13.

The award is nationally recognised by salons and employers and is considered a ‘fast track’ to the very top of the profession.

Grace Mulcahy, from Ongar and Francesca Mallardo, from Harlow, were chosen to receive the award, having been nominated by their tutor Yvonne Da Costa, who said of them: “Both girls gave a real ‘gold standard’ level of service throughout their time here at college and we’re really proud of them. They have a real passion for the beauty industry, always going the extra mile. I predict bright futures for both of them.”

Grace Mulcahy, currently working at Sun Lounge and Pure Face and Body salons in Chelmsford, said: “I’m really happy to be recognised for all the hard work I’ve put into my course. I’d like to work in London and eventually open my own salon.”

Francesca Mallardo, who works at Avant Garde salon in Harlow, also had clear ideas about her future: “I love working in a salon. I would like to specialise in camouflage and theatrical make up, particularly helping people with facial disfigurements. This is probably because I originally wanted to be a nurse.”
