volleyHARLOW Volleyball Club is celebrating a great start to its Essex Men’s League season.

Ilia Kalanov’s team have now secured two successive 3-0 wins and top their group with six points, on a head of second-placed Brentwood. The latest triumph came against Billericay.

Harlow had lost each of the four games they had previously played against Billericay in the previous two seasons.

“We didn’t play our best match but we have played better and showed more skills in the deciding moments,” said Kalanov. “We were the better team but we are still not in our best form and it’s really good that we are still winning the games even when not in best shape. The team is still to show much more of it’s huge abilities and I am sure that we will even improve during the season.

“In my opinion for this season our team has the abilities to win this group because we have a really good team, even that we have lost one of the players from the previous season. I am very optimistic because our team played with only 20/30 per cent of what is capable and still played well in this first game.”

Previously, Harlow defeated Tendring Academy away by three sets to zero.

The team consisted of Matt Bakalarczyk, Muna Mwando, Gatis Lagzdins, Lukas Babak, Janis Kazinieks and Kalanov.

The club’s ladies team have also started their Essex League campaign.
