A LEADING Harlow day nursery has pledged to prove Ofsted wrong after the government watchdog put them in special measures.

Dizzy Ducks Nursery which is situated in the Harlow LeisureZone was inspected in August.

The report said:

1. The provider shows a lack of understanding of responsibilities, as they are in breach of a number of the learning and development, and safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage.

2. Observation and assessment of children’s learning is weak. Staff lack sufficient knowledge of how to assess children’s learning and development. This means that they are unable to plan activities for children which meet their needs and help them progress.

3. Insufficient information is gathered from parents about care needs and starting points for children’s learning. Parents have limited opportunities to share learning from home to enable them to work together with staff in supporting their children’s development.

4. Some staff lack the skills and knowledge and a clear understanding of their roles and responsibilities when working with children.

5. Self-evaluation is not effectively used to inform the setting’s priorities and set challenging targets to secure continuous improvement.

But management at the nursery have told YH that they are turning things around.

A spokesperson said: “The inspection which was carried out in August highlighted some internal shortcomings. As a nursery chain who stand for excellence (we have recently been in the final five of Nursery Chain of the Year 2013 based on our Outstanding approach to childcare) we were devastated with the outcome.

“We have worked tirelessly since the inspection and addressed every point raised in the report. We have had subsequent visits from OFSTED who have been happy with the many actions taken to rectify the issues that were raised in August and they have signed off our progress.

“We look forward to our full reinspection which should be in the very near future in order to prove the massive improvements we have made since Augusts report.”dizzy
