beaconHARLOW College was announced winner of the 2013 AoC Beacon Award for Innovation in FE at the AoC Annual Conference at ICC Birmingham today (19 Nov). The award is sponsored by OCR and the announcement was made by Matthew Hancock MP, Minister of State for Skills and Enterprise.

The major innovation that the College has been awarded for is the Teaching and Learning Strategy, which has led to our achieving the highest success rates and value added of any further education college in England.

Charlotte Bosworth, OCR Director of Skills and Employment said:

“The FE sector is one of the most innovative in education and the entries for this year’s OCR Award for Innovation in FE proved this time and time again. Harlow College has abandoned a rigid ‘top down’ model for planning teaching and learning. Instead, they introduced a flexible ‘bottom up’ model which is benefitting students and staff alike and could be rolled out to transform teaching and learning in other colleges.”

Harlow College is thrilled to receive yet another Beacon Award, following last year’s AoC Award for Outstanding Leadership of Improvement. We’re on a roll!
