HARLOW Tennis Club’s men’s first team started their division two Winter League season with a 3-1 home win over Rochford.
Alex Dodd (14) made his first team debut and partnered captain Luke Spooner to a 10-1, 10-1 win.
Harlow’s second pair, Harry Melluish and Dan Stevenson lost.
Harlow won 6-2 at home to Pleshy in the Essex Mixed Winter League.
Harlow’s Darren Paget and his partner Karen Butler won 6-0, 6-3.
Harlow’s Richard Baxter and Hannah Bacon played a tough first set against Pleshy’s Darren Kent and partner Rachel Andrews losing 3-6 but turned the second set around winning 6-1 Darren and Karen then played Pleshy’s Kent and Andrews losing the first set 1-6 and were 1-4 down with the light fading, but managed to come back and take the second set 6-4.
Pleshy’s Dave and Jenny Andrews were completely taken by surprise when they played Harlow’s Richard Baxter and Hannah Bacon losing 6-0 however the second set took on a different twist, Pleshy stayed with Harlow, the light was very poor, and courts very wet, but Hannah and Richard played hard and defeated Pleshy 7-5.
