A FAMILY, left temporarily homeless, after their roof was blown off by a tornado has thanked the Harlow community for rallying round.

Amanda Chandler and her family from Upper Mealines had the fright of their lives as a suspected tornado cut across from the north west of the town through the Pear Tree Mead school playing fields before blowing off the roofs of a number of houses in Upper Mealines.

When YH returned to the scene on Sunday, Ms Chandler and her family were busy mopping up after the night before. A shattered chimney pot lay on the front garden and debris was still all around.

Amanda said: “I would just like to thank the Harlow community for all their help last night. The Essex Fire Brigade were wonderful and supportive.

“I would also like to thanks Wickes who provided sone temporary cover for the roof.

And it has to be said that our local neighbours here were great, giving us shelter and support.”
