blackHARLOW Council would like to make it clear that it is not responsible for switching off street lights in Harlow between 12 midnight and 5am. This was a decision taken by Essex County Council who is responsible for the majority of street lighting in the town.

Essex County Council’s part-night street lighting came into force in Harlow on Sunday 3 March 2014. For more information on part-night street lighting visit: www.essexhighways.org/Transport-and-Roads/Roads-and-Pavements/Street-lighting/Part-night-lighting.aspx

Councillor Mark Wilkinson, Leader of Harlow Council, said: “This scheme is leaving many neighbourhoods in the dark between the hours of 12 midnight and 5am.

“I know residents are concerned about the impact this could have on their lives and I and other colleagues wrote to the County Council last year expressing Harlow’s opposition to the scheme.

“Harlow Council will monitor the impact and pass on any concerns to Essex County Council.”
