Stewards raise the standards even when going downhill!

STEWARDS Academy brought the Winter Olympics a little closer to home recently when 49 pupils and 7 members of staff headed off for the snowy slopes of Folgaria in Italy for a week’s skiing trip.

This was the first time such a trip had gone for many years, much to the intense excitement of all involved! The majority of those on the trip had never been skiing before, and on arrival at their resort they were all thrown into a whirlwind of activities which included ice skating, swimming and tubing. This packed itinerary made sure that everyone was able to develop, and in some cases enhance, their winter sports skills.

The penultimate day of the trip saw pupils take part in a spectacular slalom course, at the end of which they received medals and badges for their efforts. Every pupil was a credit to Stewards, but special mention should be made for Som Pinukram for her organisation and leadership both on and off the slopes. Thanks also to Alex Dodd for his help and assistance to a fellow skiier on a tough downhill ski.

Trip organiser Rob Treamer, himself an ex-Stewards pupil, said: “It was a fantastic trip that hopefully has helped stewskito develop our young people not only with the ability to ski, but also with some key social and physical attributes that will benefit them everyday. We are all now looking forward to next year!’
