Council pledge to monitor “Blackouts”

A LEADING Harlow councillor has pledged to take action should there be an increase in crime during the time, street lights are switched off.
Lights on many roads have been switched off by Essex County Council from mid-night to 5am.
Portfolio holder for the Environment, cllr Phil Waite said: “Harlow Council are extremely concerned about this move by Essex County Council.
“We are going to be closely monitoring the situation via a number of methods and will receive monthly reports from officers.
“Should it become apparent that there has indeed been an adverse effect on crime figures or ASB we would look at all avenues to address this”.
