FREE ARTISTS TALKS AND DEMONSTRATIONS AT GATEHOUSE ARTS

29th March 1-2.30pm Lindsay Taylor – ‘ Taking the abundant beauty and untamed, intricate shapes of the natural world as my inspiration, I work predominantly in three dimensions’, weaving and winding hand-dyed natural fabrics into organic forms.’

5th April 12-4pm Joanne Dennis – Demonstrates through the day her unique approach to Weaving, working with materials which are chosen through her life experiences, expressing the concepts of fragility as well as everyday interactions with both people and nature. ‘The processes that I use relate to the human consciousness and our role within this diverse world, the materials that I use are not a conscious choice but one of the subconscious.’

12th April 1-4pm Max Jacquard and Alex Hamill – Max has established a reputation for innovation, both in technique and conception, that makes his work distinctive and unique, narratives are woven in and around objects often transforming the familiar or ‘found’ into strange and unsettling realities using the glassy state as both aesthetic and metaphor. The V&A Museum and The Shipley Museum of Applied Arts as well as the MAVA Museum in Alcorcon, Madrid, have acquired his work for their collections

Alex Hamill, as a mainly self taught artist, enjoys creating and working at the intersection between art, craft and engineering.

He has always been fascinated by clockwork devices, having, at the tender age of four, taken apart the family clock “just to see how it worked”!
