ESSEX County Council is to receive £2.7m from the Department for Transport to help repair damage to the local road network caused by the recent severe weather.

In total the Department for Transport has made £183.5 million available to local highway authorities in England to repair roads following the wettest winter on record.

Essex County Councillor Rodney L Bass, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transportation, said: “We welcome the £2.7m that the DfT will be giving us in additional funding to fix potholes on Essex’s roads, having made a great effort as a council to finance road repairs. This money is further to the additional revenue of £4.8m that Essex has already pledged for highways repairs next year.”
