CHILDRENroydonfood have been inspiring their families to cook healthy meals at home.

Year 4 pupils at Roydon Primary School, in Epping Road, Roydon, are enjoying regular cooking lessons, taking home their dishes to be finished and cooked with their families.

The first week saw them produce healthy chicken wraps, with peppers and onions, while during the most recent class they made healthier shortbread, using wholemeal flour.

Reggie Wilson said: “The cooking lessons have been really fun and the food is tasty. I have never cooked at home before.”

Teacher Lauren Church said: “These sessions relate back to the curriculum with science and food technology, but they are also teaching the pupils about food that’s really tasty, easy to make at home, yet healthy. They are also learning techniques and kitchen safety from an early age as they are doing everything themselves.

“We hope they are going home with their dishes and inspiring the whole family to cook.”
