Harlow Ladies 1 v 1 Basildon 1

LAST game of the season and Harlow Ladies 1’s found themselves fighting relegation with Basildon 2’s and playing on the opposition’s turf.

A poor start to the season was fortunately put behind them and they continued to show better form during the second part of the season.

Basildon started strong and scored the first goal to put them in the lead. Harlow needed a draw or win to remain in the premier league.

Undeterred Harlow came back and had a couple of short corners awarded. Soon enough a cross from Ferdinando deflected off the keeper and into Smith which then bounced into the goal.

A controversial decision by the home umpire allowed the goal to stand thus levelling the score.

Second half they played to our pace, constantly attacking. Basildon did win a few short corners however good defending by keeper Rowley, Hansson, Chambers and Shearman prevented the opposition from scoring.

A superb goal from Byers assisted by Turner gave Harlow the much needed second goal and also secured their position in the premier league for another season.

Player of the match Anita Shearman.

Players: Rowley, Shearman, Trimble, Chambers, Ferdinando, Tweddle, Turner, Smith, Byers, Castle and Hansson
