AN exceptionally exciting session, featuring the brilliant, young Australian clarinettist, Duncan Hemstock and the world famous tenor sax / clarinettist, John Crocker promises sizzling, hot swing music at St John’s Arts Centre on Thursday 24th April @ 8PM.

Inspired by the King of Swing, Benny Goodman, Duncan’s fluent and exciting clarinet constantly delights music lovers of all ages. In addition he plays booting tenor sax.

He left the colonies a few years ago to settle in London, where he is now a major part of the Capital’s thriving young jazz scene.

In addition to concerts, record dates and composing, Duncan has worked on cruise ships and as an actor.

In an age when jazz is regarded as yesterday’s sound, he is evidence that swinging music has a very bright and exciting future.

Former star of the Chris Barber band, John Crocker hails from Nottingham. John got hooked on jazz as a youngster in the mid ‘50s and later joined the popular ‘Mike Cotton Jazz Band’.

A stint as Chris Barber’s star clarinettist lasted for over 30 years and found the reedman playing all over the world with most of the leading legends of jazz.

John left the band a few years ago and has continued to tour as a featured soloist all over the Europe, to the delight of his many fans.

In terms of an accompanying band, the two reedmen could do no better than team up with ex Harlow drummin’ man, John Petters and the superbly gifted piano star, Tim Huskisson, who is becoming a popular and regular visitor to the venue.

With Keith Donald, the town’s celebrated acoustic bass plucker on board, this session is sure to produce music of the highest calibre.

Expect some musical fireworks!
