UKIP to protest against EU flag

A PROTEST against the flying of the EU flag, organised by Essex County Councillor Kerry Smith, is to be held outside County Hall in Market Road, Chelmsford CM1 1QH on Tuesday 13th April at 10.30am.

Essex County Council is planning to fly the EU flag to mark the visit that day by auditors from the European Union, who will be auditing the MaxiGreen Project which is part funded by Brussels, using taxpayers’ money. The MaxiGreen project raises awareness and promotes the South Essex Marshes through the development of Thames Estuary path maps, signage and mobile applications designed to orientate and inform visitors to the various gateways and green heritage attractions.

Cllr Smith said: “Essex County Council keeps a fully audited set of accounts, in marked contrast to the European Union, which has not had its accounts properly approved by its own auditors for 19 consecutive years. Therefore, we strongly object to the EU having its flag flown outside of County Hall. It is a symbol of corruption and waste.

“In view of the way that the EU is bleeding this nation white, at a rate of £55 million per day, much of which is misappropriated, it would be more appropriate to fly the Jolly Roger to commemorate the visit of the auditors.”
