Council make offer over cloth nappies

Cloth nappies are a real alternative to using disposables, and there are a number of reasons to make the switch.
From just £80, you can buy all the cloth nappies a baby will ever need. Even taking into account laundering costs, using cloth nappies can be £1,000 cheaper compared to disposables. Cloth nappies can also be up to 40% better for the environment than disposables.
Using cloth nappies for all or some of the time can make a real difference to the 300,000 disposable nappies buried daily in Essex landfill sites.
Many modern cloth nappies are shaped just like disposables and come in attractive prints with easy to use Velcro fastenings.
The £30 refund is available for parents who live in the Essex County Council area and have either bought cloth nappies or signed up to a nappy laundering service in the last 12 months.
To celebrate Real Nappy Week, which starts on Monday 28 April, a “nappucino” coffee morning has been arranged for mums and dads to find out about cloth nappies, view samples, get hints and tips for using them and meet other like-minded parents.
The event is due to take place on Saturday 3 May, from 10am to 12pm at the Ideas Hub, in High Chelmer, opposite the market.
Babies are of course welcome. Refreshments will be available. Parents can sign up to receive a free cloth nappy pack (new incentive claimants only).
Cllr Roger Walters, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Waste and Recycling said: “This event will be useful for any parent considering choosing cloth nappies for their babies. Using cloth nappies reduces landfill as well as saving parents money. “
The event has been organised by Recycle for Essex and Chelmsford Nappy Library. Contact [email protected] for more information.
