Ward by Ward: Mark Hall

Politics / Wed 21st May 2014 at 04:31pm

markhallTHERE are two seats up for grabs in Mark Hall this time after Labour councillor, Paul Shroeder stood down due to work commitments.

There are two Labour newcomers: Sheila Sullivan and Danny Purton. Many will be familiar with Danny’s name as he was a high ranking council transport officer for many years.

In 2010, Labour squeezed home by 41 votes. That was a popular year for the Lib Dems and a tough year for Labour. They have had things easier since then. They beat the Tories by 371 in 2011 In 2012, Jacqui Cross won this ward with 849 votes beating the Conservatives by 409 votes.

But of course, this year, we have the UKIP factor, which makes life interesting. They may well make inroads into this seat but may well not pull off a surprise win. If they do, then Labour may well only have themselves to blame.

YH prediction: Lab holds: 120 and 100
