Athletics: Records galore as Harlow Running Club dominate Hatfield Broad Oak

Harlow Running Club had an excellent turnout with 41 runners at the Hatfield Broad Oak 10K race on a warm Bank Holiday Monday morning.

It was also a productive day with two club records and seven personal best times for the distance(PB). First HRC runner was Steve Murtagh in 10th place out of 1202 finishers and 1st Vet 50 in a fantastic 35min 07sec which is a new HRC Vet 50 record. He was closely followed home by Lyndon Cooper 11th in a PB time of 35min 10sec, Jared Bethell 25th in 36min 27sec and Jamie Jephcott 64th in 38min 48sec.

First HRC lady was Louise Tankard 148th in her debut at the distance in an excellent 42min 26sec to create a new HRC Senior Lady record. She was followed home by Dionne Jones 171st in 43min 36sec and Sharon Wright 269th in 46min dead. There were also PB times from Sean Flynn 162nd in 43min 06sec, Brendan Maclean 303rd in 46min 56sec, Michelle Aitken 602nd in 53min 12sec, Jane Evans 618th in 53min 40sec, Pushpa Mistry 827th in 57min 41sec and Vicky Calver 957th in 60min 50sec.

Two other Your Harlow reporters and runners also had a good day. Katrina Allen beat her personal best by over four minutes to run 1 hr.04.23 whilst Michael Casey produced a seasons best in a time of 1 hr 00.43 secs.

Meanwhile at the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Colin Moody
finished in 18th place out of 80 finishers in 23min 13sec and Andy
Kinney was 36th in 26min 35sec.

At the Chelmsford Parkrun 5K Justin Patten finished in 83rd place out
of 281 finishers in 23min 01sec.
