ATHLETES from Harlow AC performed well at three County Championships last weekend: Essex concluded its event with Day Two at Chelmsford; Cambridgeshire held its championship at Peterborough and Hertfordshire held theirs at Watford.

In the Essex Championships, Naomi Harryman concluded her participation by winning the U17 High Jump with a jump of 1.65m. She is now champion for three individual events in addition to her Heptahlon title. Her training partner, Will Marklew, threw over fifty metres several times in his series to become U17 Javelin champion to add to his High Jump gold and Shot bronze. And, in the Under 15 age group Teale Cunningham achieved a PB height of 1.65m to secure bronze in the boys’ High Jump.

Whilst these events were unfolding in Chelmsford, Ellie Williams and Mohamed Tambedou set about picking up five bronze medals between them at Watford: Tambedou began his day with the U17 Men’s 100m and clocked a new PB of 11.48s. Buoyed by this success he went on to achieve another PB in the U17 High Jump, with a jump of 1.80m. Ellie Williams picked up her hat-trick of bronzes in the Discus, Javelin and Triple Jump respectively. Whilst none of her distances were PBs she was particularly happy with the ‘bonus’ Triple Jump success as her training had been hampered by knee injuries.

Meanwhile, at Peterborough, James Murphy who has only just started competitive athletics claimed two bronze medals in the 800m and the Long Jump; both his 800m time of 2.29.4mins and his jump of 3.94m represent new PBs.

jamesath“It has been a busy couple of weeks for the club’s athletes,” said Steve Lott “so it’s been quite difficult to keep abreast of all of the news. It has been great to learn of all of the individual’s successes and I hope they are very proud of themselves, they certainly should be. As a club we’re enjoying a certain ‘reflected glory’ from their successes and I know that people in the athletic community are beginning to take notice of Harlow again.
