Athletics: Harlow runners continue to impress around the roads

Harlow Running Club staged the last of three Ladies 5K Series of
midweek races run on a hilly course through the town park. The winner
of this race was Harlow’s own Julia Gardiner in an excellent 21min
14sec. She was followed home by Janet Smith of Bishop’s Stortford in
21min 19sec and Harlow’s Sharon Wright in 21min 39sec. There were also
personal best times for the distance (PB) for Faith Jackson-Lee 8th in
24min 20sec, Michelle Aitken 11th in 25min 18sec, Jane Evans 14th in
26min 15sec and Sheila Leach 19th in 29min 24sec. The overall series
winner and in the Vet 35 category was Julia Gardiner, the Vet 50
winner was Janice Page and the team prize was won by HRC (Julia
Gardiner, Sharon Wright and Janice Page).

Meanwhile prolific runner Andy Kinney completed a double marathon
weekend for the second successive weekend. On Saturday he finished the
first stage of the Viking Coastal Marathon event at Birchington-on Sea
near Margate in 57th place out of 64 finishers in 5hrs 47min 19sec.
Despite suffering from blisters he completed the second marathon on
Sunday finishing in 55th place out of 55 finishers in an exhausting
6hrs 26min 00sec.

At a very warm Sunday morning at the Southend Half Marathon Santosh
Kumar finished in 327th place out of 2132 finishers in a PB time of
1hr 43min 55sec. He was followed by Robin Lozeau 760th in 1hr 55min
27sec and Vicky Calver 1640th in 2hr 21min 56sec.

At the St Albans Half Marathon John Tennant finished in 263rd place
out of 2516 finishers in 1hr 42min 07sec.

At the Orion Forest 5 Mile race run on a hilly course through Epping
Forest at Chingford Sean Flynn finished in 43rd place out of 131
finishers in 36min 44sec.

At the Gunpowder Parkrun 5K at Waltham Abbey Jason Haigh finished in
14th place out of 107 finishers in a superb 20min 57sec. He was
followed home by Mark Hayward in a PB time of 22min 32sec, Spencer
Brooks 27th in 23min 33sec and Puspa Mistry 65th in 28min 47sec.
