HARLOW police have pledged to monitor the street light situation over the World Cup that starts today (Thursday).
Concerns were expressed regarding the England v Italy game which finishes at 1am and may see a number of Harlow residents leaving pubs and houses in the dark.
But YH questioned whether it was wise to leave the lights off when a number of women fall victim to domestic violence over this period.
Ch Insp Justin Smith has told YH: “I have had a reply back from the HQ planning team and whilst this was discussed at a strategic level within the force it has not been put in place as a requirement however fast track access to the ability to “light them up” has been put in place and I understand the team will continually monitor any and all issues coming from the World Cup”.
