presented by HALF-TERM PRODUCTIONS
at VICTORIA HALL THEATRE TUESDAY 5th – FRIDAY 8TH AUGUST 2014

PARENTS looking for something to entertain their children over the summer need look no further than Victoria Hall Theatre in Old Harlow.

Half-Term Productions – from award-winning local playwright Simon Mawdsley and actor/director Caroline Petherbridge – present a fun-packed, musical version of the classic tale Red Riding Hood, aimed at children aged from 2 to 11.

“Day-time shows for children is something we began at the Victoria Hall Theatre earlier this year,” says Caroline, “and we had a massive response to our first production, The Hare and the Tortoise, when we staged it during the February half term holiday.”

2013 was a big year for husband-wife team Caroline and Simon. His comedy-drama “Housebound” won the Best New Play at The Cambridge Drama Festival and, after winning similar awards at festivals around the country, was runner-up at the All-England Theatre Finals, with Caroline picking up Best Actor award. They then went on to produce a critically-acclaimed version of Brief Encounter at Victoria Hall Theatre.

As with The Hare & Tortoise, Red Riding Hood and the Wolf is a show aimed at keeping children fully engaged for around 55 minutes. “This production has everything children enjoy. There are some great characters, catchy songs, fun slapstick and a moral that even the youngest children can relate to. Added to that there are some great jokes, songs to join with and four fantastic performers playing the parts.”

The performers are themselves no strangers to the stage; Tasha Saxby, Yusuke Iizuka, Molly Jenkins and Cameron Marklew – having appeared in countless shows at Victoria Hall over the years. After each performance, all four actors do a ‘meet and greet’ in the bar so that the children in the audience can meet them and perhaps have a photograph with their favourite character. “It rounds off the experience for the children,” says Caroline, “and they find it quite enchanting to meet the actors in person.”

There are performances twice daily from Tuesday to Friday, at 10.30am and 1.00 pm.

Tickets are £7 for children and £9 for adults and are available online on: http://halftermproductions.ticketsource.co.uk/
