North Weald Airfield Community Day

Lifestyle / Wed 3rd Sep 2014 at 03:14pm

WORLD War II fighter planes, military vehicles and classic cars will all be on display as the hugely popular North Weald Airfield Community Day returns on Sunday 7 September 2014. It’s also a great day out for families as fairground rides and entertainment for children are free all day.

This year’s theme is Wings over Europe – Remembering D-Day. The airfield played a major role in the D-Day landing and retains much of the character and feel from that time.

Tickets cost £5 per person and can be purchased at the gate from 10am on the day.

There will be an air display from the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Fight Spitfire and Hurricane, Cold-War Vampires and the airfield’s Hawker Hunter. This will be the first airshow at North Weald Airfield since 1999.

Did you know North Weald Airfield was used as one of the film locations for the television series ‘Band of Brothers’ made by Tom Hanks and Stephen Spielberg? Visitors can see an exhibition of the making of ‘Band of Brothers’, with photographs of the sets.

The day will end with a march from the Royal British Legion accompanied by the Epping Forest Pipe Band at 4pm. All profits will be going to the Herts Air Ambulance and the Royal British Legion.

Visitors are invited to share photos and experiences of the day on Twitter and Facebook using the hashtag #NWfun.
