PASSMORES students will be cycling at a London 2012 venue as part of the inaugural Schools Festival at Lee Valley VeloPark and Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Passmores Academy students will try cycling at Lee Valley VeloPark which hosted the London 2012 track cycling and BMX events on 13-14 and 20-21 October.

More than 700 young people representing every district in Essex and Hertfordshire as well as every London borough have been invited for a day of cycling, hockey and tennis across the two venues on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

At the velopark, secondary school pupils will have the opportunity to try out track cycling in the velodrome, BMX on the remodelled Olympic track, road cycling on the one mile circuit and mountain biking on five miles of new trails.

Lee Valley Regional Park Authority chief executive, Shaun Dawson, said: “This festival is more solid proof of the successful sporting legacy we’re delivering from London 2012 and will give schoolchildren from across the capital and further afield the chance to follow their heroes and take part in sport in truly inspirational surroundings.

“We’ve already run four annual Schools Festivals at our other London 2012 legacy venue, Lee Valley White Water Centre, where thousands of pupils from across the region have enjoyed the thrill of white water rafting on the Olympic Standard Competition Course for free.

“We hope the young people involved will embrace these sports and continue participating in these fantastic activities. Who knows – we could discover a future champion.”
