Harlow u11 v Brentwood

After a quick warm up and a little acclimatisation to dreadful weather we get under way with the first game.

It’s cold out there and the kids spend the first half getting a little stuck in, but there was more to come in the second half with a much better performance going down the hill.

With a little more self confidence in the second game the defence was tighter and some great tackles to keep the score to a minimum. The team is coming together and improving, still much to work on, but the journey has commenced.

Harlow u12 v Brentwood

Cold, wet with a constant drizzle (muddy pitch and players !)
MATCH 1
1ST HALF

Harlow start the first by kicking the ball deep into the Brentwood half and giving chase.

The opening few minutes show the sides to be equally balanced with the ball being held around the middle of the Brentwood half without either side gaining or losing ground. The break eventually comes when Brentwood kick to clear the line after stealing the ball from Harlow, the ball takes a short, high trajectory and is collected by Asa who run’s the ball into the corner to open the scoring for Harlow.

Brentwood restart and the ball goes deep into the Harlow half. The ball is moved out to the wings where Big Alfie accelerates down the wing and deep into the Brentwood half only to be tackled. Harlow are quick to support and continue to apply pressure to the Brentwood defence. An injury holds play up temporarily and from the restart scrum (Harlow ball-in) the ball is fumbled by Harlow and allows Brentwood to press back into the Harlow half. Harlow assemble the defence line and hold Brentwood until the half time whistle
1ST HALF SCORE – HARLOW – 1 / BRENTWOOD – 0
2ND HALF

Brentwood restart the second half and Harlow take into contact. The ball is snatch from Harlow possession and again the balance of the two teams is displayed as the ball is moved with slowness by Brentwood. A brief driving maul by Brentwood results in the ball being turn-over by Harlow, who then lose at the next ruck leaving Brentwood with possession. Another turn-over allows Asa to accelerate and take the ball deep into the Brentwood half, and a quick penalty in Harlow’s favour just of the Brentwood try-line gives Matthew the opportunity to score the first try of the half.

Brentwood restart and the ball is collected by Big Alfie who then runs the length of the pitch to score the seconds try of the half.

Brentwood restart again and the ball is kicked into touch. From the restart the ball is passed to Asa, who not to be outdone by Big Alfie, also runs the length of the pitch to score another try.

Brentwood kick for the restart and Harlow attack from the collection. Brentwood turn the ball over from the ensuing ruck and make slow progress as Harlow defend against a driving maul, but and error gives Harlow possession. Harlow push up and Big Alfie runs the ball to the try line only to be held by Brentwood. Brentwood turn the ball over and Harlow continue to pressure Brentwood on their own try line, eventually securing the ball and allowing Welsh Will to dive over the try line as the final whistle is blown.

2ND HALF SCORE – HARLOW – 4 / BRENTWOOD – 0
FINAL SCORE – HARLOW – 5 / BRENTWOOD – 0
