On Monday 19th December, Purford Green Primary School received a trophy from Essex libraries for their commitment to the Summer Reading Challenge

It received the Best School In Harlow Award because the school worked closely with Tye Green Library to encourage the whole school to join the local library and take part in the summer holiday reading challenge.

Headteacher, Emma Bloomfield said: ‘We are incredibly proud to receive the award. Our English Leader, Mr Newton, and Louise Crehan from Tye Green worked very closely together to make sure all our children had the opportunity to visit the library and register. Our on-going work with them includes whole classes of children visiting every two weeks throughout the year, our children love to spend time there reading and exploring all the different books.’

‘We believe that having a passion for books and a love of reading is essential for all our children as we know it will help them to be successful in all aspects of school and later in life. We are always looking for new ways to encourage reading, our Roald Dahl Day was extremely successful earlier this year and we already offer our children the opportunity to read their books on line as well as being able use E Books on our Ipads.

Every child should have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the pleasure of a great book and our work with the library service and Tye Green Library supports this throughout the year.
