Education: Secondary / Mon 6th Feb 2017 pm28 12:13pm
STUDENTS at Sir Charles Kao UTC treated to workshops from staff at GlaxoSmithKline, Raytheon and Pearson as part of their activity week celebrations.
The day featured a number of workshops, delivered by a number of their partner employers and by the Alltogether careers service. These were aimed at teaching students the soft skills they need to gain employment or training, including interview skills and CV building.
Dr Paul Westlake at GlaxoSmithKline said:
“In today’s job market, employers are looking for candidates with great soft skills as well as great academic qualifications. Candidates who apply for a job need to be able to demonstrate those soft skills in the selection process. Local employers, like GSK, who sponsor Sir Charles Kao UTC, participate in events like this workshop to give UTC students the ability to excel at interview and launch successful careers in science, technology and engineering.”
The day featured as part of a wider programme of support from the sponsors of the technical college, which is situated next to Harlow College.
Principal Michael McKeaveney said:
“I am really thankful for the support of GSK, Raytheon and Pearson in providing the level of support they do to developing the outcomes of our students. It’s events like this that really crystallise the unique links that you have with the world of work at a university technical college”
