NET Academies Trust and Abbotsweld Primary Academy are proud to share the result of the Ofsted inspection that took place on 20/21 September 2017. The Academy received an overall judgement of ‘Good’ with the effectiveness of leadership and management judged to be ‘Outstanding’.

The report highlights the improvements that are being made across the board at Abbotsweld since the school converted to academy status and joined NET in 2015, with a strong focus on outcomes for its children:

“The school is improving rapidly. As a result of the outstanding leadership of the executive headteacher, supported well by leaders at all levels, the quality of teaching is now strongly good and outcomes have risen accordingly. (…) High aspiration pervades leadership at all levels at Abbotsweld. Expectations of what pupils can achieve are high and they respond accordingly.”

The report goes on to praise the academy’s expectations when it comes to personal development and welfare:

“The school’s work to promote pupils’ personal development and welfare is outstanding. Pupils are confident and appropriately self-assured. They enjoy talking about their learning and their school. Pupils behave very well, both in their lessons and during less-structured parts of the day. A consistent approach by all staff means that pupils always know what is expected of them.”

Early years provision and SEN support is a key priority for the Trust and Abbotsweld, with a keen focus on preparing all pupils:

“Children make good progress, often from low starting points, during their time in early years. This is because their needs are met well.”

“Children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities are identified early. The special educational needs coordinator works closely with the early years staff to ensure that appropriate support is put in place as quickly as possible.”

Mrs Jo Coton, Executive Headteacher NET Academies, commented: “We are delighted with the outcome of Abbotsweld’s most recent Ofsted and I would like to commend and praise the children, staff and parents who have supported us on our rapid journey of progress and significantly improving the educational outcomes and achievement of the children we serve.”
