Hospice invites Harlow residents to Walking in Memory event next weekend

Charity / Sat 31st Aug 2019 at 09:43am

LOCAL charity St Clare Hospice’s inaugural ‘Walking in Memory’ event will take place at the Hospice in Hastingwood next weekend, on Sunday 15th September 2019 at 11am.

The West Essex and East Herts charity is inviting local people in Harlow, Epping Forest, East Hertfordshire and Uttlesford to come together and celebrate the lives of loved ones at their brand-new Walking in Memory event.

“We are inviting local people to come together at St Clare to honour the lives of family members, friends and loved ones who are no longer with us,” says Emma Broadbent, Events Fundraiser at the Hospice. “Walking in Memory is a really special way to celebrate the life of a loved one, in the company of others who understand.”

Walking in Memory will bring together dozens of local families for a special, 5k memorial walk through the scenic fields and footpaths of the Hastingwood countryside, courtesy of Paris Hall Farm. The 5k route starts at St Clare Hospice in Hastingwood, and finishes back at the Hospice where participants can gather for a cup of hot soup and a roll. On the day, walkers can also expect to receive a complimentary, hand-held windmill that can be personalised in memory of the person they are walking in honour of.

“We wanted to add a special touch to the event that would stay with people even after the walk finishes,” explains Emma. “The windmills will be placed in the Hospice grounds as part of a temporary display, and there will also be some available to purchase for people to take home.”

“We’re really looking forward to our Walking in Memory event, which is the first of its kind led by St Clare. It’s going to be a really special day. Also, by walking in memory of someone special, you’ll be helping to raise vital funding that supports St Clare to continue offering our specialist, compassionate care to local people living with a life-limiting illness, and their families. It’s a really powerful way of supporting others in the community to live, and die, with peace and dignity.”

You can register now for Walking in Memory at stclarehospice.org.uk/event/walkinginmemory/

Participants are also welcome to sign up at the Hospice on the day (15th September) anytime from 10am.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for children, or £27.50 for a family of four.

Please note: Everyone is welcome to attend the event, but due to the nature of the course it is advised that the landscape is unsuitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
