Newly-elected SFG College councillors visit Houses of Parliament

NEWLY-elected school councillors learnt about UK politics on a tour of the Houses of Parliament.

A group of eight Year 7 students at Sir Frederick Gibberd College, in Harlow, have been appointed as members of the school council, having written their own manifestos to earn their classmates’ votes.

In response to their work, they were invited to London by Harlow MP Robert Halfon.

Headteacher Dee Conlon said: “We focus on a British Value every month. Our school councillors were elected when we were looking at democracy.

“We are going to hold a mock election the day before the General Election which our school council will lead. We hope students will then go home and encourage their families to vote the next day.”

Rhianna Bolt said: “The House of Lords was my favourite part. I liked finding out about how it works.”
