Children returning to school will benefit from a brand-new wellbeing room installed during lockdown.
WHILE schools have been closed to the majority of pupils due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the extra resource has been set up at Roydon Primary Academy, in Roydon.
The room is full of comfortable furniture, sensory items, dark hides and resources which can be used when talking with children.
Learning mentor Jane Swales, who set the room up, said: “We are extremely fortunate to be able to create and provide a wellbeing room for our pupils.
This will enable us to build and strengthen our whole school approach to wellbeing and mental health.
“Our children will be able to access this room through group interventions, one-to-one mentoring, collaborative work with outside agencies and drop-in sessions at lunchtime.
“We want all children at Roydon Primary to know there is somewhere safe for them to go if they need to talk.”
The room was made possible as a result of the fundraising efforts of the school’s PTA (FORSA) which raised £2,500 for the project.
Dyan Archer, from FORSA, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to support the school in creating the new wellbeing room. As a safe space and source of comfort, it will make a big difference to the mental health of some of our students for years to come.
“Thanks to the parents and Roydon community for raising the funds – this is just the sort of thing that FORSA is here for!”
Headteacher Michael Clark said: “We are very lucky to have such a wonderful PTA in FORSA who put on so many great events raising money for the school.
“The donation towards the wellbeing room allowed us to provide a safe, calm and friendly area for our children as we continue to focus on their mental health and wellbeing; something which will become even more important as schools start to return.
“We are incredibly thankful to the whole school community who all played a part in this by attending our events, and to Mrs Swales for her hard work planning the preparing the room.”
