Rugby: Date for return to competitive play put back to January

Rugby / Tue 6th Oct 2020 at 09:28am

Message from Harlow Rugby Club

THE Rugby Football Union (RFU) has confirmed that the Return to Competitive Play in 2020/21 is delayed until January.

For the avoidance of doubt and although social gatherings of more than six people were banned in England from Monday 14 September and a number of local lockdown restrictions put in place in some areas of the country, the Government has confirmed that organised sports and activities that have been through return to play protocols can continue.

With the exception of clubs impacted by local lockdown restrictions, we continue at Stage D on the Roadmap and 20 players per half-pitch.

For those with an interest its worth watching the attached clip  Return To Rugby Team Sport Risk Exposure Framework Rationale that talks about some of the science behind the decision making.

Whilst this news is disappointing it’s no great surprise given the Governments most recent advice and re-evaluation of Social Distancing. The Club management; Rugby and Executive Committees are reviewing all our options and are actively exploring in-house permitted ‘touch-rugby’ tournaments. Watch this space!
